The worst thing that you can do in a moment of tragedy is trivialize the event. Joking about it, making graphics of pictures of the injured, comparing the bombings to other political events or, way fucking worse, fictional representations of violence, are all examples of…

Junot Diaz on Men Who Write About Women
The Atlantic: It sounds like you're saying that literary "talent" doesn't inoculate a writer—especially a male writer—from making gross, false misjudgments about gender. You'd think being a great writer would give you empathy and the ability to understand people who are unlike you—whether we're talking about gender or another category. But that doesn't seem to be the case.
Junot Diaz: I think that unless you are actively, consciously working against the gravitational pull of the culture, you will predictably, thematically, create these sort of fucked-up representations. Without fail. The only way not to do them is to admit to yourself [that] you're fucked up, admit to yourself that you're not good at this shit, and to be conscious in the way that you create these characters. It's so funny what people call inspiration. I have so many young writers who're like, "Well I was inspired. This was my story." And I'm like, "OK. Sir, your inspiration for your stories is like every other male's inspiration for their stories: that the female is only in there to provide sexual service." There comes a time when this mythical inspiration is exposed for doing exactly what it's truthfully doing: to underscore and reinforce cultural structures, or I'd say, cultural asymmetry.

I think the greatest moment of my high school experience was in my freshman when I was taking a math class and this kid I knew rick rolled the school for senior prank day. And he wasn’t even a senior
I read this without looking at your url and I was like ‘OH MY GOD ME TOO’ and then i was like ‘oh wait’

Not feminism: Oh my God, that woman is wearing make-up and high heels! She can't be a feminist. She's just adhering to the patriarchal expectations of femininity! What a traitor to her gender.
Not feminism: I hate men! Women are so much better than men! All men are rapists and we don't need their help! Men are just there to oppress us and keep us down! Women are the superior gender.
Not feminism: You're giving up your career to have a baby? You're being dictated to by a man! That's the wrong choice! You've slept with twenty men? Wow, way to show that you have no respect for yourself.
Feminism: Women and men are equal. No-one should be discriminated against on the basis of their gender. Women have the right to decide how to live their life, how to dress, what to do with their body and who to love.

Being an opinionated woman, I’ve heard a lot of sexist jokes. I think they were supposed to be funny, I don’t know. As King Solomon said, there’s really nothing new here. It wasn’t funny the first time, and it won’t be funny the fifteenth time.
It will, however, make me think of you as an even bigger asshole.
It will also make your dick look smaller. (lmao sexism)

Thin privilege is being able to see people of your own body type in Les Miserables.
Like, really. It’s my favorite musical, but there was not one single even remotely overweight person in the whole movie.
